Program Overview
Vascular diseases represent the single most important cause of death and disability in our nation and will remain so for the decades ahead. SVM’s meetings provide a very important arena to help health care providers maintain their focus on tangible cardiovascular health threats. A new phase of an initiative began in September 2006 when the Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Coalition and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) partnered in a public health awareness campaign on peripheral arterial disease. From SVM’s participation in the PAD Coalition and interactions with the healthcare community at medical conferences, the SVM identified a need for information for patients and healthcare professionals about symptoms of peripheral vascular disease, prevention and screening for PAD, and pharmacologic therapies.

Rapid developments in the fields of vascular medicine and biology call for a forum for discussion of controversial scientific and clinical topics, yet there are few opportunities for specialists in these areas to exchange information with pre-eminent figures in cardiovascular medicine, surgery and radiology. The meeting will address the most important things that happened in vascular medicine over the past year, current issues and future trends.

An essential component of every year’s meeting is to feature internationally recognized clinician-investigators and clinician-educators and renowned vascular scientists to keep our attendees abreast of issues that impact on their patients, their practice, and their livelihood.

SVM members and others have posed questions about current regulatory affairs. An interactive session on working with the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission/Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories’ accreditation will provide the most up-to-date information.
